About the Program Committee

What is the Conference Program Committee and what do they do?

A subset of the Annual Conference Committee, the Program Committee takes charge of developing, preparing, and moderating all professional education sessions at the IGFOA Conference.  Their work begins at least one year in advance as they gather ideas at the current Conference.  The Conference and Program chairs review attendees’ evaluations and suggestions for future topics.  The Program Chair invites members to serve on the committee and typically hosts a meeting in January or February.  Brainstorming, review of suggested topics, and comparison of training offered through Chapters and Career Development are used to generate a draft list of sessions.  The Committee breaks into smaller groups to refine the topics and their scope then gets to work recruiting speakers, panelists, and instructors  The Program Committee also selects a topic and speaker for the Keynote address.

Once the agenda is complete, the volunteers shift their focus to coordinating sessions.  Coordinating tasks include arranging meetings or conference calls amongst presenters or panelists, reviewing instructors' materials for consistency with learning objectives, determining audiovisual needs, and moderating the actual session!  The Program Committee volunteers host the speaker ready room during the conference.
