Village of Huntley – Assistant Director of Finance – Finance Department
The Village of Huntley is seeking an experienced municipal finance professional to hit the ground running as Assistant Finance Director to fill the vacancy created by its incumbent due to a recent promotion earlier this year. This position plays a critical role in assisting the Director of Finance in the planning, management, and operations of the Village’s Finance Department and the financial operations of the Village. As the direct supervisor of a staff of five, the Assistant Finance Director plays an essential role in maintaining a strong, customer service-focused team that facilitates Village services in an efficient, transparent, and respectful manner.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Finance Director include:
- Supervises employees engaged in various accounting and finance operations, such as handling cash transactions, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Trains, supervises, and monitors the technical tasks performed by the Finance Division staff related to accounting, audit, treasury management, and financial data processing.
- Professionally administers financial accounting activities as necessitated by GAAP, State, and Federal requirements; oversees all Village funds.
- Assists with the preparation of the annual budget and develops worksheets, schedules, and charts for budget preparations and presentation.
- Manages bank account cash balances and account types; supervises the transfer of cash between bank accounts to cover obligations; supervises the reconciliation of bank accounts.
Qualifications:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in finance, accounting, public administration, or closely related field; master’s degree and/or current certification as a CPA strongly preferred. Considerable experience in municipal accounting, including supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualified candidates must have experience with computerized accounting systems and enterprise resource planning systems, spreadsheets, databases, word processing and be committed to using technology to its fullest. Experience with Tyler New World Systems is a plus.
Desired Capabilities:
- Thorough understanding of finance and accounting principles, practices, and methods as applicable to municipal finance operations, fund accounting systems and internal control requirements, GASB as applicable to municipal finance, financial reporting requirements for regulatory agencies, ordinances, resolutions, and regulations affecting municipal finance operations.
- Extensive leadership skills to effectively and efficiently organize, direct, and coordinate the activities, personnel, and equipment of the department.
- An excellent communicator with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to collect, logically organize, and analyze information, and make appropriate decisions or recommendations within the scope of position responsibilities.
- Willing and able to mentor and develop staff; ability to plan, organize, coordinate, prioritize, and evaluate the work of direct staff.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $109,456 - $153,239, with an anticipated starting salary of $109,456 - $120,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications. The Village of Huntley offers a robust health and wellness package in addition to participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
