Assistant Finance Director | Village of New Lenox

Under the general direction of the Finance Director but using independent judgement, this position will perform complex accounting and financial work involving the control, development, coordination and execution of the Finance Division's functions and programs with an emphasis on the Crossroads Sports Complex and KidsWork Children's Museum.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide general management assistance and recommendations to the Director of Finance.
- Analyze fiscal transactions to assure conformity and compliance with generally accepted accounting practices.
- Responsible for day-to-day cash flow of Village funds for the Crossroads Sports Complex and KidsWorks Children’s Museum.
- Assist the management team participating in key decisions pertaining to: economic development, strategic planning, long- and short-term revenue and expenditure strategies, budget development and administration, and all policies impacting the overall fiscal health of the Village.
- Assists with the responsibility for Federal, State and County fiscal reports and monthly financial reports to the Village Board and management staff.
- Assist with planning, directing, organizing and preparing of the annual budget.
- Assists with the planning, directing and organizing the annual audit. Assist in the preparation of all of the audit work papers and prepares the audit report for the auditors’ review.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual tax levy, public hearing materials and levy ordinance for the Village of New Lenox.
- Oversees the preparation of bi-weekly, monthly and special payrolls; prepares all payroll reports for submission to outside agencies (IMRF, Federal & State) for the Village of New Lenox including Crossroads and KidsWork Children’s Museum.
- Assist the Director in administering and supervising the Finance Department, including internal control systems, collections, and utility billings, financial reporting, general accounting, debt service management, revenue forecasting, cash management and investments, purchasing and payroll.
- Assists with the enforcement of Village polices on the purchasing of all Village materials, equipment, supplies and services and administers any ongoing contracts.
- Give direction to the other departments regarding all accounting functions.
- Assist with all other inquiries regarding Village financial matters.
- Performs related tasks or other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of government accounting. Comprehensive knowledge of general laws and administration policies governing municipal financial practices and procedures. Ability to analyze, interpret and explain financial policies, procedures and practices, prepare and verify accurate and timely financial statements. Ability to apply established accounting and budgeting methods and techniques. In addition, possess excellent communication and organizational skill, be detail oriented and possess the ability to handle multiple projects.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE
Knowledge equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, accounting, financial management, or a closely related field; and three to five years professional accounting experience including two years of supervisory and upper management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
Hours: Mon – Fri 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Reports to: Finance Director
Pay Range: $109,631.74 to $156,040.15
